I’m very pleased to announce the fruits of a project I’ve been planning for a long time: a short film based around my composition Aria for Strings!
I admire the creative energy behind a lot of pop music videos and always felt there must be a way to adapt the genre to fit the style and mood of classical music. So, a few months ago I sat down, closed my eyes, and listened to Aria for Strings, allowing my imagination to run free. I put the scenes that came to mind into storyboard format and from then on the remaining pieces quickly began to fall into place. I found a model to work with, a perfect location at a nearby lake, and researched a few new video production techniques.
The shoot itself took about 90 minutes this past Sunday. After several days of editing and multiple draft versions I’m delighted to release the finished product. My goal was to trace the outlines of a simple story, reflecting the dreamlike mood and subtle emotions of the music. The slow motion is intended to allow the viewer to savor the small, beautiful details in every scene, from ripples in the water to a skirt blowing in the wind.
